Hailing from Israel, New York and all points of the rhythmic compass, Balkan Beat Box’s Tamir Muskat (ex-Firewater, producer of Asaf Avidan & The Alaev Family), Ori Kaplan (ex-Golgol Bordello) and Tomer Yosef —MTV has called the three the Godfathers of Global Bass— came together in Brooklyn’s underground musical melting-pot crafting an exquisite sonic blend of Mediterranean-inflected, globalized electronica alongside an discontented and outspoken world view.
Drawing upon their wide-ranging backgrounds in global nomad musical culture, their sound is a high-energy fusion of ancient traditions with the modern language of hip-hop, dancehall and electronic sampling. The band is explosive on record, but truly unforgettable on stage.
Their most recent album, GIVE (2012), was inspired by protest movements across the globe—from the Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street and Israel’s social protests—the album speaks out against social ills, while presenting a cautious hope and energizing spirit for our time.
The band’s also a hit with other musicians and has been sampled by Mac Miller and Diplo on "Goosebumpz," and Jason Derulo #1 hit around the world, "Talk Dirty," sampling Balkan Beat Box’s “Hermetico”.
Supporting the group throughout their East Coast dates is Brisbane powerhouse Dubmarine, who will be releasing their new bass heavy and brass infused single, None The Wiser, along with accompany film clip on the tour.
Joining Balkan Beat Box in at The Hi-Fi in Brisbane on March 6 will be the acoustic force of nature with a line up including 7 horn players, 1 drummer and 1 monster MC group, BULLHORN. Sydney reggae legends Kinsky will be jumping on the Sydney leg of the tour, bringing their infective horns, lush lady vocals, stonkin’ riddum section and, rootsy tunes; Kinsky will light up the Oxford Art Factory on March 11. The final addition to the Balkan Beat Box Australian tour is the high energy hip-hop, funk and rock fusion of JackJackJack, joining Balkan Beat Box at the Prince Bandroom, on March 12.
