The Contortionist (USA) & SikTh (UK)

WILD THING PRESENTS, IN ASSOCIATION WITH DAVID ROY WILLIAMS PROUDLY PRESENT...

THE CONTORTIONIST (USA) & SIKTH (UK) - CLAIRVOYANT AUSTRALIA TOUR!

With Special Guests AlithiA!

American modern progressive metal innovators The Contortionist return to Australia as part of their Clairvoyant Tour, joined by special guests UK djent-metal pioneers SikTh -who will be making their first ever Australian appearances!

The Contortionist represents fearlessness in musical expression, designed to please artist as much as audience. This band makes progressive metal music, anchored in the heavy sounds that first drew the individual players to the stage, yet unmoored by convention or expectation.

Critics and fans admire their intelligent approach to the crushing riffs of tech-metal, which becomes more vibrant with elements of ambitious post rock and jazzy / fusion-infused virtuosity. Even when angular riffs, odd time signatures, and devastating breakdowns give way to hypnotic, ethereal, and trancelike musical meditations, The Contortionist are never lacking in total power.

There are plenty of credible reasons The Contortionist is often associated with top-tier, critically embraced progressive metal and mathcore groups like Between The Buried And Me, and Animals As Leaders. It doesn’t take a metal detector to discover the elements owing, to some degree, to iconic prog-metal masters like Dream Theater, Cynic, and Meshuggah, either. But on the steady climb from Exoplanet (2010) to Intrinsic (2012) that has crystallised with Language (2014) and Clairvoyant (2017), The Contortionist lay claim to a genre within a genre all their own.

On Clairvoyant, the band’s distinctive fingerprints remain, even as their atmospheric flourishes broaden to encompass ever-richer textures and mine the beauty of simplicity. Clairvoyant takes the best elements of The Contortionist’s past and reshapes them as the band follows their individual creative muses toward the future.

For the entirety of their career, The Contortionist has proven capable of being equally at home on tour with Deftones, Periphery or TesseracT, thanks to their dynamic combination of metal’s blunt precision with the adventurous spirit of prog-rock heroes like Rush and King Crimson. In whatever The Contortionist endeavours to do, there will always be a great amount of thought, attention to detail, and shared love of musicality. They have committed to never surrender to the path of least resistance, always challenging themselves and their audience.

When you think about the Great British pioneers that have shaped heavy music over the years, SikTh is a name that sits proudly within the list. Having met in 1999, the Watford mathcore sextet stumbled upon a sound unexplored, devising their own Morse code of metal – one that mushroomed into labyrinthine detours and tangents, ultimately leading to the birth of the djent metal almost a decade later. It’s more clear than its ever been: they were way ahead of their time.

A career-defining set on Download Festival 2006’s second stage made it look like the new kings of British hard rock/heavy metal were here. They had legions loyal to their cause, an American record label, videos topping MTV playlists, but it was not meant to be – they disbanded just a few years after… Little did they know how prophetic their musings would prove to be: in the years that followed, the djent revolution would reinvigorate tech-metal – with many of its key practitioners citing SikTh as a primary influence. By the end of 2013, it was time for the next chapter. They would return to Download 2014 and make good on that promise they made all those years ago.

With one of the best albums of 2017 now under their belt in The Future Is Whose Eyes?..The djent-metal kings have returned!

Following their explosive exploits on tour with Leprous (Norway), both in Europe and Australia, Melbourne 7-piece tribal progressive/psychedelic rock live-wire AlithiA will be joining The Contortionist & SikTh on their upcoming Clairvoyant Australian Tour in May.

AlithiA’s sound delves deep into the realm of psychedelic tribal post-prog rock. The band embraces heavy percussive grooves, new wave Blade Runner-eque synth blasts, and melodic vocals with an emphatic punk attitude resulting in one of the most unique and diverse live shows to infect your senses!
