Mew (Denmark)

Wild Thing Presents, in association with The Bird's Robe Collective & TheMusic proudly present...

MEW. For the past 20 years, this iconic experimental rock group has earned legions of admirers around the world, across six acclaimed studio albums, playing the world’s biggest festivals, yet they have never toured Australia…

Until now.

For the first time ever, the Danish quartet will bring their astounding live show to our shores, playing three exclusive headline shows in support of their latest release “+ -“

With a passionate Australian fan base, the band have often expressed their desire to visit. An online petition started in 2009 grew into the dedicated and vocal community “Mewstralia” who have lobbied hard for a maiden visit by the band. More recently, one of the band’s biggest fans, Kiwi songstress KIMBRA, brought further buzz down under when she featured on tracks ‘The Night Believer’ and ’Water Slides.’

So, finally, it’s happening.

Mike Solo, of The Bird’s Robe Collective, said: “I have been a fan of Mew for nearly a decade and have often dreamed of seeing them play live. I’m honoured and overjoyed to be a part of this first visit. I hope it makes a lot of people as happy as I am to see this wonderful band in Australia. We all know how rare it is to find a band with such an amazing ability to craft interesting, memorable and progressive songs – and these shows I hope to remember for a long time. Spread the word and get excited!”

“After some concerted rallying and campaigning over 6 years, it was beginning to feel like we’d never see Mew in Australia. So we’re beyond stoked that we’ll finally be witnessing Mew live in all their immersive glory! Catch you at the shows!” – Stefano Perfili for Mewstralia

Mew formed as a quartet in late 1994 and following their debut ‘A Triumph for Man’ in 1997, they quickly established cult status. Their commercial break-through came in 2003 with the release of “Frengers” – showcasing their unique and quirky approach to crafting classic pop melodies. The record saw them tour with R.E.M. before continuing with 2005’s ‘And The Glass Handed Kites’. Their 2009 opus ‘No More Stories Are Told Today, I’m Sorry They Washed Away // No More Stories, The World is Grey, I’m Tired, Let’s Wash Away’ continued their ever expansive musical backdrop. Their most recent record “+ -” has seen them reach the heights of indie-rock stardom, headlining London’s Roundhouse and performing at festivals like Roskilde, Pukkelpop and Summer Sonic.

‘+ -’ is out now in Australia through PIAS
